Why 'Having Backups' Isn't the Same as 'Being Backup-Ready'

A backup drill is the practice of periodically testing a real restore — not just confirming a backup file exists, but actually restoring it (to a staging environment, ideally, not production) and verifying the result is a working, complete copy of your site or application.
A basic backup drill checklist
- Confirm your backup schedule is actually running — check JetBackup's log/history in cPanel for recent successful snapshots, not just that a schedule is configured.
- Once a quarter (or more often for critical sites), perform a full test restore to a staging subdomain or separate account, not production.
- Verify the restored site loads correctly, database content is current, and any recent uploads/changes are present.

- Document the restore steps somewhere your team can find them under pressure, not just in someone's memory.
