Web Hosting with GST Invoice in India — Which Hosts Provide It?
If your company is GST-registered, every rupee spent on business services needs a proper tax invoice for input tax credit (ITC) reconciliation. Web hosting is no exception. Yet most popular hosting brands in India — Hostinger, NameCheap, SiteGround, Bluehost — are foreign companies that cannot issue a GST invoice. This guide tells you which hosts do, which don't, and what to do if you are currently stuck with a VAT receipt.
Why most popular hosts can't give you a GST invoice
To issue a GST invoice (with CGST/SGST or IGST), a company must be registered under the Goods and Services Tax Act in India. Foreign companies without an Indian entity are not GST-registered and cannot issue compliant invoices.
What you get instead:
- EU VAT invoice (Hostinger, SiteGround, Namecheap)
- USD invoice / PayPal receipt (many US hosts)
- Generic foreign receipt that your CA cannot use for ITC
Under Section 16 of the CGST Act, ITC can only be claimed against a tax invoice issued by a registered supplier. A Lithuanian VAT receipt does not qualify. Businesses that have been claiming ITC on foreign hosting invoices should review this with their CA.

What if I am already on a foreign host without GST invoice?
You have two options:
- Stay and expense it differently: Book the foreign hosting as "imported service" and apply Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) for GST. This is complex and your CA needs to handle it properly. Not all CAs are comfortable with this treatment.
- Migrate to an Indian host: Simpler accounting, proper IGST invoice, UPI payment, no USD forex risk. HostStack offers free migration from most shared hosting providers.
For most Indian SMBs and startups, migrating to an Indian GST-registered host is the cleaner path. The accounting team stops flagging the hosting invoice, and you stop paying 2–4% forex markup on every renewal.
GST HSN/SAC code for web hosting
Web hosting services in India typically fall under:
- SAC 998315 — IT infrastructure provisioning services (IaaS, hosting, data processing)
- GST rate: 18% (IGST for interstate B2B, CGST 9% + SGST 9% for intrastate)
Your CA may classify it differently based on the specific service. Always confirm the HSN/SAC with your tax advisor before filing.
