- A managed database is a database-as-a-service where the provider handles installation, patching, backups, monitoring, and failover. You connect with a standard connection string and focus on your application, not database administration.
- How often are backups taken?
- Automated backups run daily and are retained for 7 days on all plans. Point-in-time recovery within the retention window is available. You can also trigger manual backups before major deployments.
- Can I migrate from AWS RDS?
- Yes. Standard mysqldump or pg_dump exports work with HostStack managed databases. For large databases, use logical replication to minimise downtime during cut-over. Our team can guide the migration over WhatsApp.
- What connection strings do I use?
- After provisioning, the control panel provides a standard JDBC/connection URI with host, port, username, and SSL certificate. Works with any MySQL/PostgreSQL client library — Laravel, Django, Node.js, Spring Boot, etc.
- How do I scale my managed database?
- Vertical scaling (more vCPU and RAM) is available from the control panel with minimal downtime. Read replicas can be added on Standard and Pro plans for read-heavy workloads. Storage auto-expands within plan limits.
